Liz Walker was born in Girvan in Ayrshire and studied at the Glasgow School of Art. She teaches Art and Design at Fortrose Academy in the Black Isle.

‘My figurative painting is inspired by the work of the 14th century painter Giotto. In these pictures I have selected and transcribed two female figures placing them in a completely different relationship and context while at the same time trying to aim for the massive solidity that Giotto so wonderfully achieved in his frescos.

On the other hand, the two still life pictures owe a lot to the influence of Cubism and the artist Duchamp. In the partly three dimensional work I have tried to explore and play with the idea of building an illusion on top of another illusion (which painting is, of course) and attempting to confuse the viewer as to what is three dimensional and what is painted, if only for a few seconds.’
